Today I had the pleasure of sitting down with Mark, founder of Halfnight Entertainment, to hear how he built his successful business from the ground up. He’s been in the Connecticut music scene since 2001. He started Halfnight in 2005, after graduating high school, growing from booking his own bands to creating a business. Now, 20 years later, Halfnight Entertainment is an “all in one shop” for not only booking, but management, live sound, studio recording, wireless home entertainment and more. He also has a network of outsourced professionals for other entertainment categories including photography and videography.
Mark is a true entrepreneur, taking the skills he has and finding a way to incorporate them in any way he can to grow his business and help others. From the short interaction I was able to have with Mark, I can tell helping others succeed is one of his top priorities. Mark tells me his focus recently has been on Halfnight’s studio recording aspect, a service he runs out of his home. He explained how he wants to make his artist feel as comfortable and welcome as possible, giving them access to his kitchen, bathroom, and anything else they may need when they are there recording. This is more than just simple hospitality for your clients, when you work with Mark, you become family. “We’re here to have fun, be productive, learn something, and hopefully get a good album out of it”. His priorities aren’t overcharging to record an album, especially if the artists are young and new to the industry. He’s going to welcome them into his house and teach them something new, “so that way even if they don’t come back to record with us again, they know what to expect”. Mark is truly looking out for his community and is a great mentor for new artists to the industry. I’ve experienced personally how kind Mark is, as he extended part of his network with me, connecting me to other industry professionals he knows, who may have something to offer me on my personal journey into the music industry.
We ended our chat discussing various music venues in Connecticut and how unique they are. There are so many memories held in such interesting places to share music. He told me the story of how 2 kids grew College Street Music Hall into the great venue it is today and talked about the closing of the Crunch House. The sound doesn’t have to be great to leave a venue with great memories.
Mark took the time out of his busy schedule to talk to me today, you should take time out of yours to check out Halfnight Entertainment. For all your audio needs, you won’t find a nicer guy to work with.
